Canadians for a Nuclear Weapons Convention (CNWC) joins all of Canada in mourning the loss of Parliamentarian and Humanitarian Paul Dewar.
Paul was a superb parliamentarian in every sense: commitment to ideals, strategic competence, and very caring about his constituents.
We also knew him as a persistent advocate for nuclear disarmament. He fully understood the quagmire that nuclear disarmament has become, but never lost his vision of a nuclear weapons-free world. Thus he became a leader in Canada — in both Parliament and civil society — for real progress towards the elimination of nuclear weapons. His leadership internationally within Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (PNND) family was widely respected.
In 2015 Canadians for a Nuclear Weapons Convention presented him with the Annual Achievement Award for outstanding work for nuclear disarmament. The citation reads:
“Presented to Paul Dewar, In recognition and deep appreciation for your ongoing commitment to a nuclear weapons free world and for your work toward that end as International President of Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament (PNND).”

Paul Dewar’s inspiration lives on and continues to challenge everyone who works for nuclear disarmament.
